Hermes Ostrich Birkin Bag Photo: Wikipedia The Asian buyers who line up hopefully at Gucci and Louis Vuitton in Paris are legendary, as is the understanding that in cities like Hong Kong, a designer bag like those and Chanel or Dioris a sign of social success that can open many doors. The latest trend related to the bags, however, has nothing to do with fashion or the social access they represent. Rather, theyve become a fast conduit to ready cash when their owners run out of dough to fill them. Exclusive designers handbags have joined the list of goods that retain their value and can be used as collateral for loans for considerable amounts of money. Given the state of the global economy, many observers are predictinga rapid spread of the new custom to the rest of the world. If you want to buy a designer handbag but are held back by pangs of price tag guilt, just look to Hong Kong, advises the U.K.s Telegraph. For Frances Le Figaro, the fashionistas of Hong Kong have found their pawnshop for luxury bags. The deal is simple: Cash-strapped women who possess luxury bags and occasionally men, who constitute one in five of the customers can recover 80% of the value of the item as a loan as long as the bag is a genuineGucci, Chanel, Hermes, Prada or Louis Vuitton. Special editions and vintage classics offer still better loan leverage.

Louis Vuitton has argued the ads pay ‘homage to the craftsmanship’ of its employees rather than an accurate depiction of the manufacturing process. Three people complained to the ASA, saying they did not believe the designer bags were made entirely by hand. And after being challenged by the ASA, the designers admitted that sewing machines had been used, but said production of the bags was ‘not automated’ and that there were over 100 stages in the making of each bag. The controversial ad showed a photo of a seamstress stitching the handle of a handbag, with the text reading: ‘The seamstress with linen thread and beeswax. The underthings that underpin M&S profits ‘A needle, linen thread, beeswax and infinite patience protect each over-stitch from humidity and the passage of time. ‘One could say that a Louis Vuitton bag is a collection of details. But with so much attention lavished on every one, should we only call them details?’ A second ad showed a woman making a wallet, with the text stating: ‘The young woman and the tiny folds. In everything from Louis Vuitton, there are elements that cannot be fully explained. ‘ ‘What secret little gestures do our craftsmen discretely pass on? How do we blend innate skill and inherent prowess?

Louis Vuitton Bags Stolen From Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport

The trunk maker owned by Paris-based LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SA (MC) lifted prices on bags such as the Speedy and NeverFull by about 10 percent in the euro region, Antoine Belge , an HSBC analyst, said today in a note to clients. Vuitton raised prices by at least 10 percent in the U.K. and U.S., and by 5 percent to 10 percent in Asian markets including China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore, the analyst wrote. The euros strength against some currencies may lead LVMH to charge more, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Bernard Arnault said Jan. 31. Vuittons price increase in Japan, the biggest ever by the brand in the country, was taken to offset the impact of the yens slide on sales, the company said Feb. 20. In addition to protecting margins, the price increases must be seen, in our view, as a means to accelerate LVs repositioning towards more leather, Belge wrote. The decision will probably weigh on the number of items sold, though its the right thing for brand equity longer term. Vuittons 2013 sales may rise 6 percent, excluding currency moves, while volume may decline 2 percent to 3 percent, Belge wrote.

There are some really good replicas out there and we want to share with you how to spot the difference. Below, you will find various views of the bag, with the fake one on the left and the real one on the right. *Please note that the real bag in this example is vintage, therefore there are a few louis vuitton speedy differences in the real Speedy shown below and a newer Speedy you would find today. For more details on vintage Louis Vuittons, see the Fashiohphile guide. Interior (close up): The fake one has a rough textured interior, while the louisvuitton real ones interior is much more smooth. All Louis Vuitton bags have a date code which can be found on the interior, or sometimes on a leather tab on the exterior. Because the real bag is vintage, the date code is split onto 2 different leather tabs on the interior (only one shown above: 851). Today it can be found on one leather tab or stamped directly onto the interior of a pocket.

Elegance and chic style are in the mix for this new collection, which draws inspiration from the brand’s iconic luggage and handbag lines. In fact, the photo inviting Louis Vuitton fans to check out the new footwear depicts more bags than shoes. Louis Vuitton ads banned after design house misled customers by suggesting its bags were hand-stitched

Just a week after samples of Marc Jacobs’ Spring 2012 collection were lifted from a Paris train , thieves have made off with loads of Louis Vuitton from Paris’ Charles de Gaulle airport! Women’s Wear Daily reports that a small group of masked bandits (yes, real life bandits) overtook four airport employees and a security guard at one of the terminals and nabbed ten skids containing $400,000 worth of Louis Vuitton merch. While there aren’t too many more details, we have to wonder: ten skids? How many Speedys can five thieves carry?? Stay tuned for updates — hey, maybe the leather goods will turn up with the Marc Jacobs samples. Those would be some seriously fashionable thieves.
